A new airline is taking to the air in Hong Kong, Greater Bay Airlines. The necessary certificates were issued on October 8, 2021 by the civil aviation authority of the Chinese Special Administrative Region.
The Donghai United Group is involved in the start-up. This also holds 25 percent of the Chinese Donghai Airlines. Greater Bay will initially take off with a Boeing 737-800. Two more units are to be added in the course of 2022. The fleet is expected to grow to 2026 aircraft by 30.
Greater Bay Airlines has not yet started ticket sales. Subject to official approvals, the plan is to first fly to Singapore, Bangkok and Phuket. The start of operations is announced for the fourth quarter of 2021. According to its own information, route rights have been applied for for a total of 104 destinations.
