The Icelandic airline Icelandair is sending its Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft on long-haul routes: The carrier intends to fly this pattern between Keflavik and Portland from October 9, 2021. Travel time: eight hours.
This type of machine has already been used selectively on US flights, but these are currently primarily served by Boeing 757 and 767. The first type will be leaving the fleet in the medium term. Icelandair plans to gradually switch almost all 757 routes to the Boeing 737 Max 8. From October 9, 2021, regular flights will be available on the eight-hour Keflavik-Portland route.
The Icelandic airline has not yet made a final decision on a successor to the Boeing 757, as there are some destinations in the network that are outside the range of the B737 Max 8. In this context, Icelandair is evaluating both larger versions of the Max and the Airbus A321LR / XLR.
