The Icelandic airline Icelandair plans to reactivate six Boeing 2021 Max from spring 737. The carrier flew a loss of 376 million US dollars in the previous year and had to record a drop in passengers of 83 percent.
With the help of the Boeing 737 Max, Icelandair will slowly and carefully start up the network in the spring, announced company boss Bogi Nils Bogason. Extensive updates and pilot training courses are currently in progress. The carrier believes that the lower cost of ownership of this pattern will help on restart.
Most of Icelandair's network has been inactive since around December 2020. Only a few routes are still operated with low frequencies. The background to this is the weak demand, which is primarily due to the strict entry and quarantine regulations of many countries.
