The “classic flu” is a growing concern of politicians, but also doctors, because it is expected that the influenza flu wave could be violent in the coming winter. Health Minister Wolfang Mückstein (Greens) is now recommending that tourists in Croatia should be vaccinated against influenza beforehand.
Last winter, the corona measures resulted in the classic flu epidemic in Europe defacto. However, this should also have led to the fact that there are hardly any antibodies in the population. Therefore Mückstein appeals that you should be vaccinated before traveling to Koratien. "Likewise, travelers returning who have flu-like symptoms should undergo an influenza clarification by their family doctor in addition to a corona test," said the Ministry of Health in a broadcast.
“Due to the effect of the corona protective measures, there was no flu epidemic in Austria in the past winter season. But that doesn't mean that the flu is gone. On the contrary: This year we expect a stronger influenza season and this virus can also lead to serious illnesses and deaths for particularly vulnerable groups. Therefore, the same applies to the flu: With a vaccination you not only protect yourself, but also others. Now Croatia is already recording an increase in H3N2 influenza cases. I therefore advise everyone who is planning a vacation in Croatia soon: take advantage of the flu vaccination offer, ”explains Mückstein.
