Innsbruck Airport recorded a decline of 57 percent in the previous year and counted 487.450 passengers. The number of flight movements in charter and scheduled traffic fell by 59 percent to 4.980 take-offs or landings.

In comparison, the decline in Innsbruck was low. This has to do with the fact that this airport has most of its annual traffic in the winter months. The first quarter of 2020 could still be largely “taken along” normally. The airport was even able to set a new record before air traffic suddenly collapsed due to the corona pandemic. Innsbruck was able to achieve around 2020 percent of the total annual volume in the first three months of 40.

The bottom line, however, is an expected annual loss of three million euros, announced the operating company. However, the audited balance sheet is not yet available. For the current year 2021, an even stronger decline and "high economic losses" are expected, since winter business has completely collapsed.

"Even though the Covid crisis had us firmly in hand, we did everything in 2020 to work as efficiently as possible and at the same time to guarantee operations for the few flights," explains airport manager Marco Pernetta.

The airport is looking forward to the coming summer in a positive mood. The tourist demand is definitely high and the tour operators Idealtours, TUI, Christophorus Reisen and Gruber Reisen have again put together attractive travel offers from Innsbruck. We assume that in the summer with a vaccination and / or a negative test, you can comfortably start your holiday in the direction of the Mediterranean from Innsbruck. There will be direct flights to Italy, Croatia, Greece, Croatia and Spain in summer 2021 from Innsbruck and can be booked in the Tyrolean travel agency.

The Innsbruck numbers at a glance:

  • Passengers: 487.450 (-57 percent)
  • Aircraft movements: 4.980 (-59 percent)
  • Loss: vrsl. 3 million euros
