In the first quarter of the current year, Innsbruck Airport was around 12 percent below the level in the same period of 2019. Managing Director Marco Pernetta expects around 2023 travelers for the whole of 950.000.
In the record year of 2019, Tyrol Airport had 1,13 million passengers. During the corona pandemic, Innsbruck was hit particularly hard in 2020 and 2021, because the entry and quarantine regulations introduced in panic by various governments have resulted in the incoming business, which is important for the airport, collapsing very badly. Pernetta told the Tiroler Tageszeitung that they haven't fully recovered from it yet.
In terms of outgoing traffic, the destinations in Greece are said to be in particularly high demand this season. Italy and Mallorca would also be well booked. In an interview with the Tiroler Tageszeitung, the manager sees the fact that the tour operators working on site also use smaller aircraft as a positive thing, since destinations can be offered that are not available from other airports.
Pernetta is not only optimistic about the currently high demand, but also believes that it could quickly tip over again. At the moment, it would be worth a lot for passengers to fly on vacation or to visit friends or relatives. However, the market could quickly tip over if everyday price increases become more and more of an issue, the Innsbruck airport director told the Tiroler Tageszeitung. He tends not to see classic “last-minute offers” at the airport he manages in midsummer 2023, but everything could be completely different again in the coming year.
