The Austrian airport Innsbruck received the Emas environmental award earlier this week. On behalf of Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), Section Head Christian Holzer presented the airport representatives with the certificate.
The airport was named an "Emas pioneer" and honored for the more than 20 years of use and implementation of the European environmental management system Emas. "We are very happy about the award, but we are not resting on our laurels," said Airport Managing Director Marco Pernetta about the renewed award and announced: "The next major project in the field of sustainability is the introduction of emissions-based landing fees from 2023 on the plan."
Innsbruck Airport was the first airport in Austria to introduce the Emas system back in 2001. Many environmental measures have since been implemented and documented accordingly. In 2007, 2013 and 2018, the airport already received Emas special prizes at national level for its environmental team, its innovative environmental management and its environmental statement.
