Various airlines have already been victims of cyberattacks or - mostly - have had data breaches that are their own fault. At the beginning of the week, the Iranian Mahan Air was hit. The hacker attack - at least officially - had no impact on flight operations.

Nevertheless, there are numerous reports from Iran that there have been repeated irregularities in standard processes. These are said to have caused delays. In some cases, the passenger handling had to be carried out manually because the data allegedly had no access.

Nevertheless, the airline claims that it successfully blocked the cyber attack. According to their own statements, there have been repeated similar attacks in the past. It does not seem to have been exactly as Mahan Air claims, as numerous passengers claim that they received text messages on behalf of Mahan Air. Apparently the hackers have taken control of the dispatch system and in some cases sent completely meaningless messages to the passengers. Mahan Air particularly denies the fact that sensitive customer data would have been stolen.
