The Alitalia successor Ita has committed itself to the fact that the fleet will consist of aircraft from the manufacturer Airbus in the future. Letters of intent were signed for ten A330neo, eleven A320neo and seven A220. Furthermore, they want to lease 56 machines.

Initially, Ita will take off with some of the aircraft that have been in service with Alitalia so far. The fleet renewal is to be tackled as early as next year. The aim is to have 2025 machines in operation by 105. Around 70 percent of this should come from the latest generation.

The 56 leasing machines include 13 widebodies and 42 narrowbodies. Air Lease Corporation will purchase around 31 of them. The A220 and A320neo are also available from this company. In a communication, Ita hopes that the number of lessors can be limited to six. Alitalia currently leases 69 of 80 machines from no fewer than 13 lessors.

It is currently planned to launch on October 15, 2021 with 27 A320s, 17 A319s, seven A330-200s and one Embraer 190. The Boeing 777s used by Alitalia are not to be taken over. The future of the subsidiary Alitalia Cityliner is still unclear.
