The Italian airline Blue Panorama Airlines, which has also been operating under the Luke Air brand for some time, had to cease flight operations on the evening of October 26, 2021. It is not the first time that the carrier has run into financial distress.
The unions Uiltrasporti, Filt Cgil and Fit Cisl announced that Blue Panorama Airlines had to cease operations for financial reasons. This also affects the leisure activities under the Luke Air brand. The fleet last consisted of eight Boeing 737-800s, one B737-300, one B737-400 and two Airbus A330-200s.
Blue Panorama Airlines already had serious financial problems in 2012 and 2017. In 2017 the carrier was taken over by the tour operator Gruppo Uvet after legal restructuring proceedings. So far, Blue Panorama Airlines has only received a small amount of Corona aid money. The unions are now putting pressure on the payment to be accelerated, because in the summer of 2021 demand was rather subdued. If the government should now help, jobs could be secured and flight operations resumed. Otherwise liquidation would be threatened.
