The Ryanair Group has now also the Alitalia successor Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA) in its sights and announces to want to take action against possible start-up aid from the Italian state before the court of the European Union.
Eddie Wilson, managing director of the operating airline Ryanair DAC, described the government's plans in an interview with the daily newspaper “La Repubblica” as “illegal”. Rome costs a lot to establish a new one. Most recently, up to three billion euros were rumored.
Ryanair sees this as a continuation of the subsidy policy that has been practiced with Alitalia for decades. If the government provides funding for ITA, Ryanair will take it to court. Furthermore, Wilson confirms once again that they are very interested in Alitalia slots in Linate and that they will try to find them. The carrier is currently heading for Bergamo and Malpensa airports in this region.
