July 2022: Vienna with around 1,4 million overnight stays

The city of Vienna registered around 2022 million overnight stays in July 1,4. This reached around 83 percent of the volume that was in July 2019. For the first time, overnight stays by tourists exceeded the million mark.

From January to July 2022, around 6,4 million overnight stays (+349% compared to 2021) were counted. In the period from January to June 301,3, Vienna’s accommodation providers achieved around 440 million euros in net overnight turnover (+2021% compared to 2022).

This July brought around 1,4 million overnight stays, a calculated increase of 128% compared to the same month last year - this corresponds to around 83% of the overnight stays in July 2019. 1,1 million of these overnight stays were due to international guests.

In July, Germany again led the list of the markets with the highest volume with 280.000 overnight stays (+78% compared to 2021). With 248.000 overnight stays (+56% compared to 2021), Austria recorded more guest overnight stays (+6,4%) than in July 2019 and thus exceeded its previous record. The other top 10 source markets for Vienna in July include the USA (99.000, +485%), Great Britain (50.000, +974%), Italy (48.000, +205%), Spain (41.000, +220%) and France (35.000, +119%), Israel (33.000, +95%), Switzerland (30.000, +59%) and Ukraine (23.000, +562%). In the year to date (January to July), Vienna has recorded 6,4 million overnight stays - this means a statistical increase of 2021% compared to the same period in 349.

The net overnight turnover of Viennese accommodation providers in June (data for July are not yet available) was EUR 88,4 million - this is a calculated increase of 318% compared to June of the previous year. In the period from January to June, the companies were able to generate EUR 301,3 million - 440% more than in the same period of the previous year. The average occupancy of the hotel beds in July was 55,4% (7/2021: 29,6%), that of the rooms around 72% (7/2021: around 38%). In the year to date (January to July), bed occupancy was 39,7% (1-7/2021: 13,7%), room occupancy around 51% (1-7/2021: around 18%). Overall, 66.700 hotel beds were offered in Vienna this July, around 12.600 more beds than in the same month of the previous year.
