London Heathrow Airport's largest customer, British Airways, does not like the announced fee increase at all. The International Airlines Group is now putting pressure on and threatening to reduce its presence at the UK's largest airport.
Heathrow actually wanted to turn the fee screw even more, but the civil aviation authority stepped in due to complaints from the airlines. It will still be significantly more expensive, but not to the extent required by the airport management. However, this is still too expensive for users.
The top dog in London Heathrow is the IAG subsidiary British Airways. CEO Luis Gallego threatened on Monday that the group of companies he led would relocate capacities to other airports without the airport management giving in. The IAG Director General believes that the fee increase is detrimental to aviation recovery.
If the relocation could actually take place, then London-Gatwick Airport should have good cards for the British Airways brand. A new subsidiary, called BA Euroflyer, is currently being set up here. Long-haul flights have also been carried out from this airport in the past. It would then also be logical that Aer Lingus and Iberia could expand their presence in Gatwick. At Vueling, however, it cannot be ruled out that you will be impressed by cheap offers in Luton, Stansted or Sotuhend. The last-mentioned airport has a serious problem anyway, because you are currently there without regular scheduled flights.
