Since the beginning of November, Lufthansa Cargo has been flying weekly between Frankfurt and Evenes in northern Norway with A321 freighters.

As the cargo airline announced in a broadcast, fish and seafood will be transported on the connection in cooperation with the producer Nordlaks and the forwarding company Salmosped. Evenes Airport is located near the city of Harstad/Narvik and belongs to the province of Troms og Finnmark in Norway. In the vicinity of Evenes Airport there are sometimes numerous salmon producers. Both the catch of wild salmon and the income from salmon farming are growing steadily. In 2021 alone, more than a million tons of salmon were exported from Norway.

“I am particularly pleased about this innovative product range. It shows how, thanks to the flexibility of the A321 Freighter, we can provide our customers with individually tailored transport solutions. Not only do we help ensure that fish and seafood from Norway reach their destinations even faster in the future, but also in the best and freshest quality. Transport routes to some markets can now be reduced from six or four days to less than 24 hours via the direct connection to the Frankfurt hub,” emphasizes Ashwin Bhat, Chief Commercial Officer at Lufthansa Cargo.

LH Cargo has recognized that it can serve attractive markets with smaller aircraft. The LH mother now has similar thoughts about also relying on A 220 or E2 jets.
