A possible comeback of Ernest Airlines has now moved into the distance, because a court ruled this week that the company is insolvent and must be wound up. Flight operations ceased almost a year ago.

Creditors can register their claims until April 19, 2021. This also includes holders of airline tickets that could no longer be used. The court scheduled the first creditors' meeting for May 19, 2021.

The Uiltrasporti union sees the court's decision as positive, because Ernest Airlines would only exist as a corporate shell. The resumption of flight operations would have been unlikely from the start. However, this had consequences for the employees, because they are still formally employed by the airline and were therefore not entitled to unemployment benefits. That changes now with the court order. The workers' representatives demand that those concerned be paid as soon as possible the insolvency pay under Italian law.
