Another carrier, Air Atlanta Europe, received Maltese approval at the weekend. The Transport Malta-Civil Aviation Directorate presented the subsidiary of the Air Atlanta Icelandic Group with AOC and operating license.

The first machine registered in Malta is a Boeing 747-400 and has the registration 9H-AZA. The four-jet engine is 17,6 years old and was originally delivered to Air France. It is a passenger aircraft, but has been used by Air Atlanta Icelandic as a freighter ("Preighter") since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

Air Atlanta Europe also has its first order in the bag, as the jumbo jet operates cargo flights on behalf of Saudia Cargo. The call sign of the new carrier is "Euroviking". The ICAO code is AAE. You don't (yet) have an IATA two-letter code.

Although the Maltese Air Atlanta Europe is a new company, an airline existed under this brand name in the past: The Air Atlanta Icelandic Group had an offshoot based in London-Gatwick between 2003 and 2006. This was given up. Now there is another EU branch under the same name, this time with Maltese certificates.

Air Atlanta Europe is based in an industrial park in the municipality of Birkirkara, around ten minutes' drive from Luqa Airport. The 9H-AZA is currently registered on the AOC, although it is planned that further machines will be transferred from the parent company to the new subsidiary.
