Frankfurt am Main Airport was used by 2023 million travelers in May 5,1. In a direct comparison with the same month last year, it was possible to increase by 12,2 percent, but it is still 17,5 percent below the pre-crisis level.
The volume of freight has recently continued to decline and reflects an overall economic slowdown. At 155.963 tons, cargo handling (comprising air freight and air mail) in FRA was 10,2 percent below the level of May 2022. The number of flight movements increased slightly by 1,9 percent to a total of 37.278 take-offs and landings, the cumulative maximum take-off weight (MTOW ) grew by 5,1 percent to around 2,3 million tons (each compared to May 2022).
Fraport's global airport network also recorded further growth throughout the Group. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia counted 110.926 passengers in the reporting month (plus 30,4 percent compared to the same month last year). Traffic at the Brazilian Fraport airports Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) rose to over 1,0 million passengers (plus 8,1 percent). Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru had around 2023 million passengers in May 1,7 (up 14,8 percent). The total number of passengers at the 14 Greek regional airports increased to 3,3 million (up 16,7 percent). In Bulgaria, the two coastal airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) recorded strong growth of 30,3 percent to a total of 224.003 passengers. Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey recorded 3,4 million passengers, up 27,7 percent.
The total number of passengers at the airports actively managed by Fraport rose by 2023 percent year-on-year in May 16,7 to 14,8 million travelers.
