The airline Nordica has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320, ES-NAB. The plane arrived in Tallinn on October 21, 2022 and has already completed its first charter flights.

The first commercial flight with the ES-NAB was carried out on October 25, 2022 on behalf of a tour operator under flight number ND8011 from Tallinn to Hurghada. It then continued as ND8081 to Heraklion and on October 26, 2022 as ND8031 back to Tallinn.

The aviation company, which belongs to the Nordic Aviation Group, wants fleet up to 15 Airbus A320. This number of medium-haul jets is considered the "critical size" to be able to get involved in the ACMI and charter segment. They also want to add four Airbus A320neo to the fleet. These are to be stationed in Hamburg and Munich and fly from there for an unspecified wet lease customer. Managing Director Jan Palmér did not want to provide any information about the client. One is already looking for flying personnel. According to the current state of affairs, the aim is to expand the fleet to ten machines from the A2024 series by summer 320.

In the summer of 2023, the aim is to be active in the ACMI and charter market with up to six aircraft of this type. If possible, the aim is to focus on services for other airlines and conclude long-term contracts. But first you will fly in charter for Tez Tour.

The fact that Nordica wants to enter the ACMI and charter segment is not purely coincidental. More and more companies are entering this field in the Baltic States. New airlines were also founded. The comparatively low wage costs are likely to play a primary role here. Remarkably, some providers outsource at least part of their flight operations to Malta.

The Nordic Aviation Group consists of two operating airlines: Xlfy, whose fleet consists of seven ATR72-600 and nine Bombardier CRJ-900, and Nordica. The latter company has a CRJ-900 and now also an Airbus A320. The newcomer is 12,4 years old and was previously in service with Nouvelair and Chengdu Airlines.
