As part of a charter flight, Norse Atlantic Airways landed a Boeing 787-9 at Troll Airfield, located in Antarctica, for the first time. This is also the first type landing of this pattern.
The machine with the registration LN-FNC was in use. This touched down on the eternal ice on November 15, 2023 at 2:01 a.m. local time. The client for this special flight was the Norwegian Polar Institute. There was equipment and 45 researchers on board the machine.
On November 13, 2023, the Dreamliner set off from Oslo. A stopover of around 40 hours was made in Cape Town. On Wednesday, the long-haul jet took off at 23:03 p.m. local time for Antarctica. The LN-FNC was then able to land safely there. Norse Atlantic Airways is extremely proud to have operated this charter flight,
“It is a great honor and excitement for the entire Norse team that together we have achieved a significant moment with the landing of the first 787 Dreamliner. In the spirit of exploration, we are proud to be involved in this important and unique mission. It is a true testament to our highly qualified pilots and crews as well as our state-of-the-art Boeing aircraft,” said company boss Bjørn Tore Larsen.
