The emergency helicopters of the ÖAMTC air ambulance took off across Austria for 2021 missions in 19.253 - more often than ever before.
On average, a Christophorus crew was alerted 53 times a day to bring life-saving aid from the air. Compared to 2020 (17.284 missions) that is an increase of eleven percent. “The corona pandemic was also one of the defining topics in the country last year. To protect our pilots, doctors and flight rescuers - but also the patients - we have therefore continuously adapted the tried and tested protection concepts to the situation. That worked extremely well, which is why we were able to keep our operations open at all times, ”says Reinhard Kraxner, managing director of ÖAMTC air ambulance. Most missions were flown in Lower Austria (4.758), Styria (3.556) and Upper Austria (2.650).
