If it goes purely according to the law, vaccinated people would quickly and easily get official certificates of their Covid vaccinations from the respective district administration or in statutory cities from the magistrate. In practice, however, it is a complicated undertakingwhich reminds a little of the A38 pass in the Asterix comic.

People who have received their injections from their general practitioner or from another resident doctor can usually have themselves issued there, which is recognized almost all over the world. However, it becomes problematic if the vaccine was administered in a vaccination center. In principle, general practitioners are only allowed to certify as definitive those diagnoses that they have made themselves or that are valid on the basis of further examinations initiated by them (classic: blood test in the laboratory).

This means that a vaccination that was not administered by the respective doctor himself may not be certified as definitive. The doctor could only confirm that the Covid vaccinations are entered in the yellow paper vaccination passport and in the electronic ELGA version, but not this may confirm that the vaccination has been carried out. Unless, for example, the family doctor vaccinated himself.

So how do people who have received their Covid immunizations in vaccination centers get a valid confirmation on paper? In principle, the respective district administration is responsible for this, in whose district the vaccination center in which you received the vaccination is responsible. In statutory cities it is the magistrate (example Vienna: MA15). There an A38-Tour pass can threaten, because a system of organized non-responsibility - although the legal situation is clear - is flourishing.

Official forms are available free of charge on the Internet

The easiest way to get the coveted certificates in German and English as a person who has been vaccinated in a vaccination center operated by the Austrian federal states or the city of Vienna is simple: The centers are managed by the respective health authorities of the respective federal states - operated in Vienna by MA15. Upon request, they are obliged to confirm the vaccinations in addition to the entry in the yellow vaccination certificate on official forms.

The forms can be downloaded in the so-called RIS system in PDF format and brought to the respective vaccination center. If you have not yet been vaccinated, the form can be filled in, stamped and signed by the doctor on duty at the same time as the entry in the yellow passport.

But if you have already been vaccinated, you can also get the certificates upon request. In the vaccination center, ask for the chief doctor on duty - Vienna also calls him the vaccination manager doctor - and ask for the documents to be issued in accordance with the entry regulations (Annexes C and D) on presentation of ID and the yellow vaccination pass. The official forms should be printed out and brought with you, as these are usually not available in the vaccination centers, as the documents are only issued on request.

The vaccination centers issue the documents

Important: The certificate can only be obtained from the vaccination center in which one was vaccinated. If you haven't had the vaccination yet, you can get it there on request, but you should bring your own forms. As a rule, the centers are operated by the health authorities of the respective state government or district administration (in statutory cities: magistrate). This means that the operator's stamp is attached and the signature is provided by an authorized doctor.

If one is vaccinated or has already been vaccinated in a private practice, for example at the family doctor, then he can confirm the official forms himself. It is only necessary to point out that this type of certificate is a private service and the attesting doctor may, but does not have to, demand a fee for this.

The official forms can be downloaded free of charge in PDF format from the links below:

Annex D of the entry regulations (confirmation in English)
