Wizz Air has to postpone the opening of its first Russia base due to the recently enacted travel restrictions. The new date is December 3rd.
The low-cost airline had originally planned to station a single Airbus A18 aircraft at Saint Petersburg Airport from September 320, according to the news magazine Swiss Aviation reported. That this plan would not hold up became clear to the low-cost carrier at the latest after the adapted entry rules of Russia. As a result, the Russian Federation does not generally issue entry permits to foreign nationals. However, some states, such as the UK, are exempt if they can provide a negative Covid-19 test result. This measure affects various routes of the airline to and from Russia, which will remain suspended for the time being.
