Russia wants to make the use of the Sukhoi SSJ-100 pattern much more attractive. The airlines in the country are given cheaper leasing rates - also as “power by the hour” and direct subsidies. However, this should initially only apply to new deliveries made from 2020.
It is currently planned that up to US $ 505 per flight hour will be subsidized. The UAC-owned airline Red Wings would benefit most from this, as this carrier receives numerous SSJ-100s. From 2021, at least 60 hours of flight per machine must be completed in order to be eligible for the funding. The payment will then only be made towards the end of the year.
SSJ operators can draw grants for regional routes from another pot. 104 million US dollars are available for this. An additional $ 90 million can be added depending on the region. The total amount of possible subsidies per year is capped at 59 million US dollars per year and route or aircraft.
With the financial incentives, the government of the Russian Federation wants to make this model palatable to domestic airlines. The bottom line is that the Superjet can then be operated extremely inexpensively. The subsidies should also lead to a greater willingness to take risks with regard to new routes.
