The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair brought a lawsuit at the Court of the European Union against the state aid last granted to Alitalia in the amount of 199,45 million euros. The lowcoster's request is directed against approval by the EU Commission.

In similar cases, Ryanair has suffered legal defeats before the Court of First Instance of the European Union. The low-cost airline took the appeal to appeal to the European Court of Justice, so that the carrier's complaints have not yet been finally decided.

Ryanair explained to Alitalia that it is of the opinion that the EU Commission has misused its competence by granting additional state aid. The procedure is described as “illegal” and is therefore sued before the General Court of the European Union. The future of Alitalia itself has not yet been clarified, because the EU Commission wants to prevent the brand name from being transferred to the newly founded Ita.
