Ryanair calls the Boeing 737-Max-200 machines a game changer, although they have not yet taken over a single unit. Group boss Michael O'Leary indicated a few days ago that it is even expected that not a single B737-200 will be delivered before midsummer.
In an interview with Reuters, Eddie Wilson, Managing Director of the operating airline Ryanair DAC, was more specific: “We need a definite date from Boeing for when we will get the first aircraft and then we have to decide whether the date suits us or not. Then we commit ourselves, because normally we don't bring new machines into the fleet in the high summer season ”.
In other words: Ryanair could possibly request a later first delivery from Boeing, because the high season traditionally begins in the first days of July. It won't be long until then. Wilson sees the blame for the delays affecting this special variant of the Boeing 737-Max-8 exclusively with Boeing. The manufacturer would not communicate enough with the FAA and the approval process would therefore be lengthy and complicated.
The Ryanair Group has ordered a total of 210 Boeing 737-Max-200s. These will initially be used by the subsidiaries Ryanair UK and Buzz. Shortly afterwards, Malta Air and Ryanair DAC will also be equipped with this pattern. Lauda Europe will also change the fleet to a Boeing 737-Max-200, but there is no specific date for this yet. It is also unclear whether Lauda will keep its own livery or will be in the Ryanair colors in the future. Malta Air and Buzz introduce their own livery with the fleet of the Boeing 737 Max 200.
