So far, Ryanair does not fly to Funchal, Portugal. That changed this week, because a Boeing 737 Max 200 was flown in for presentation purposes. At the beginning of the summer timetable period 2022, the low-cost airline will set up a new base on the island.

For the time being, two Boeing 737s will be stationed, with the company's boss Eddie Wilson not explaining whether it will be NG or Max models. A total of ten destinations, including Nuremberg in Germany, are to be served from Funchal.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of our new base in Madeira, which connects to 10 new destinations through 2 planes and 40 weekly flights, connecting Madeira with cities such as London, Paris, Dublin, Milan and Manchester throughout the year. This $ 200 million investment will not only boost Portugal's economy by helping to grow regional tourism, it will also create more than 60 direct jobs in the region and more than 400 indirect jobs locally in Madeira, ”said Wilson.

Ryanair destinations from Madeira at a glance:

  • Brussels Charleroi
  • Dublin
  • Lisbon
  • London Stansted
  • Manchester
  • Marseille
  • Milan Bergamo
  • Nuremberg
  • Paris Beauvais
