Wizz Air actually wanted to start a non-stop connection between St. Petersburg and Salzburg in September 2020. The recording was postponed at regular intervals - most recently in July 2021. Now the first flight has again been canceled and moved to September 19, 2021.
Should Wizz Air actually start the route in September 2021, it would have been around a year late, which is primarily due to the corona pandemic and the complicated entry and quarantine regulations associated with it. It remains to be seen whether the new date will hold up.
The route to Varna is to begin from Salzburg on June 13, 2021 and operate on Monday and Friday. Kiev-Shulyany is to follow on June 28, 2021 and will be flown on the same days. These two routes have also been postponed frequently and sometimes at short notice by Wizz Air.
In the previous year, Wizz Air had announced numerous other routes, including Belgrade, and some also operated them at short notice. According to the current state of information, these will no longer be reactivated. The Hungarian low-cost airline also has no further routes from Salzburg in its program, at least in the short term. However, this can change again at any time. In general, the city of Mozart, where, in contrast to Vienna, no aircraft are stationed, is to play an important role in the Austrian strategy in the future.
