The cabin employee of Ryanair subsidiary Lauda Europe, who consumed alcoholic beverages such as Jack Daniels during a flight from Poland to London-Stansted in May and shared this with appropriate poses on the Internet, has now been brought to justice in the United Kingdom. The former flight attendant says he's "not a criminal".
The incident caused a stir across Europe because on May 18, 2022 the Lauda Europe flight attendant at the time used the supplies, which were intended for sale to the passengers, and sipped vigorously from bottles of Jack Daniels and wine. He posed accordingly for photos that were then shared on the Internet – including by himself.
Immediately after the incident became known, Lauda Europe announced the dismissal without notice. The UK law enforcement authorities have meanwhile filed charges. The trial took place this week at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court in Essex. The court has not yet announced a verdict, but has called for the verdict to be announced on August 31, 2022.
According to prosecutors, the case for the British judiciary is quite complicated because there are "no guidelines for conviction" due to the rarity of such incidents. This could also be the reason why the court takes more time for the decision. The young man could face a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine. The transfer to the next higher instance is also in the room.
The legal limit for aviation personnel is 9 mcg of alcohol per 100 ml of breathing air, which is lower than the legal driving limit of 35 mcg of alcohol per 100 ml of breathing air. According to prosecutors, the former flight attendant should have had a level of 50 mcg in 100 milliliters of breath immediately after landing at Stansted Airport. A further test carried out at Harlow Police Station then gave 30 mcg/100ml.
