For some time now, SAS has been evaluating whether the aging Boeing 737-700 should be replaced by an Airbus A220 or Embraer E195-E2. Now the Brazilians have won the race, as a letter of intent to acquire 15 machines has been signed.

A so-called LOI is not yet a binding sales contract, but the die still seems to have been cast. CH-Aviation.com reports, among other things, that SAS wants to replace the Boeing 15-195 with the help of the 2 E737-E700s.

The Scandinavian airline took a long time to make the decision, as it was confirmed in 2019 that it would choose between the A220-300 and E195-E2. Meanwhile, SAS is also looking for a fleet manager for Embraer e-jets.

The Embraer E2 series is the direct competitor of the Airbus A220 series. The latter was originally launched by Bombardier as the CSeries and was later adopted and renamed by the Europeans. Both manufacturers are currently vying for orders from various carriers, including Alitalia and Croatia Airlines. The Brazilians were also at Air Dolomiti recently presented.
