Berlin-Brandenburg Airport counted around 2022 passengers in January 768.000. This was around 300.000 fewer travelers than in December 2021. In the month before the crisis, January 2020, 2,25 million passengers traveled via the former Schönefeld and Tegel airports.
A total of 9.100 flight movements were registered in January, 3.100 fewer than in December 2021. In January of last year, around 4.000 aircraft took off and landed at BER. Air freight handled 2.325 tons last month, 775 tons less than the previous month. In January 2021 it was 1.708 tons, in the pre-Corona month of January 2020 around 2.620 tons.
“Our flight operations are still massively restricted by Corona. However, compared to January 2021, it can be seen that the year is starting much better than in the first Corona winter. More and more passengers know: Air travel is more complex under Corona conditions, but of course possible. It also helps that we have found ways together with our partners at the airport to deal with the challenges of the constantly changing travel conditions better and better," says airport manager Aletta von Massenbach.
