In Ghana, a new national airline is launched under the name "Ghana Airlines". The government announced a few days ago that it is the final brand name.

Ashanti Airlines has a stake in the future carrier. This company is currently supporting the Ministry of Transport in setting up the new airline. We are currently in the final phase of the approval phase. The government expects that AOC and operating license can be granted shortly.

Ashanti Airlines was selected as a strategic partner and investor through a tender in September 2022. Other applicants included Ethiopian Airlines, Egyptair and the JNH Group. However, the decision was made to go for a "local solution" because Ashanti Airlines is a Ghana-based airline and is majority-owned by Osei Kwame Despite.

Ghana has not had a national airline for about 12 years. Ghana Airways collapsed in 2004 and Ghana International Airlines suffered a similar fate in 2010. Everything should be better this time. It is initially planned to start with a fleet consisting of Boeing 787s and de Havilland Dash 8-400s.

The turboprop aircraft will be used mainly domestically and in neighboring countries. It is currently planned that initially six units will be purchased. During the 2019 Dubai Airshow, the government of Ghana signed a tentative order for three Boeing 787s, destined for the new carrier. Nothing is currently known about possible medium-haul models.
