Two new measures are intended to help reduce food waste in the long term.

Since April 13, Swiss has been offering its Economy Class passengers on short- and medium-haul flights the opportunity to pre-order their desired product online from the current Swiss Saveurs menu. The desired product can easily be ordered via a separate booking link up to 36 hours before departure. The offer is available for all short and medium-haul flights to and from Zurich and Geneva from April 20, 2022 with a flight time of more than 50 minutes. Payment is only made on board and at a reduced price when the products are handed over by the cabin crew, the carrier said in a press release.

“Reducing waste and eliminating unnecessary food disposal plays an important role in our sustainability strategy,” explains Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Chief Commercial Officer Swiss. "With the pre-order initiative, we want to further optimize the production of fresh products in line with demand in order to reduce the disposal of food on board."

Buy leftover fresh produce at a reduced price

This is also supported by another initiative that the AUA sister is also launching on April 20th. As part of 'Swiss Saveurs To Go', the cabin crew offers guests on the last evening flight of a plane to Zurich or Geneva after the regular service unsold fresh products based on Confiserie Sprüngli recipes. The availability of the offer is announced in the on-board announcement shortly before landing. Subject to availability, guests will be offered either a bag containing one or two fresh produce in a surprise bag assembled by the cabin crew at a significantly reduced price.
