From August 12 to 15, 2022, this year's "Bölkow & Friends Meeting" will take place at the Schärding/Suben airfield. Around 30 aircraft from German aviation and numerous old-timers who are friends are expected.

This year, the well-known Bölkow & Friends get-together will be organized by Thomas Strohmeier. His Bölkow Monsun "BO209RV", with the serial number 197 - first flight 1972, was voted the most beautiful of the event at last year's meeting in Hildesheim. The challenge cup and also the honor of being able to host the next meeting went to him. He is actually stationed in EDMJ Jesenwang and has been active there in the ProLuftfahrt Jesenwang eV association for years as the second board member. He would have liked to have held the meeting at his home airfield, where his and three other Bölkow Monsun are stationed.

But it's not quite that easy, because the airfield is not 100% ideal for some pilots who are used to a long runway, and in the right weather conditions it could also be a bit short for a fully packed Bölkow Junior. That's why Tom and Andrea looked for an alternative and found it. Schärding / Suben airfield in Upper Austria (LOLS) was chosen. After brief discussions and a sympathetic ear from the Schärding Aviation Union, an agreement was quickly reached and the Upper Bavarians as well as the Upper Austrians found each other. Pilot comradeship across national borders makes it possible. The Fliegerunion, which operates the Schärding customs and border airfield, and the Bölkow friends are looking forward to the meeting, at which at least 30-50 aircraft from Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm, from Germany, Austria, the Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and many other countries are expected.

On the weekend of August 12th to 15th, 2022, these will fly into LOLS (Schärding/Suben). Young and old meet up with their Messerschmitt Bölkow Blohm's to spend a nice weekend together. Flieger Ratsch (Bavarian expression for “Flieger-Schnack” or “Flieger-Klonen”). A little fun competition, plus one or two days of flying trips over the Danube Valley and the Bavarian Forest, to the Starfighter Museum (Gerhard Neumann Museum in Niederalteich on the Danube), or to a nice bathing lake right at one of the airfields - and afterwards a cozy get-together at the grill and around the campfire - all of this is what makes flying and the camaraderie that goes with it. Many will pitch their tents by their planes again and literally enjoy the night under the wing. And for those who find camping a little too rustic, they can move into one of the rooms in the surrounding guesthouses or hotels.

If the weather is not good on the weekend of August 12-15, 2022, the event will be postponed to the weekend immediately following. Of course, other historical aircraft are also welcome, because that's why the meeting is called "Bölkow & Friends". So if you feel addressed with your classic car, you are very welcome.

Interested pilots or owners of historical aircraft can register under the following contact details or receive further information there: Thomas Strohmeier, [email protected], Telephone: +49-174-9236055.
