The golf carrier Emirates is introducing a fee for bookings made through GDS systems. The amount depends on the distance and is at least 12 euros and a maximum of 21 euros per ticket. Primarily affected are travel agencies and company offices that use GDS systems such as Galileo, Saber or Amadeus.
A few years ago Lufthansa caused a stir when such a surcharge was introduced. Numerous airlines have since followed suit. Emirates has not had such a fee so far, but the carrier will in future rely on "Emirates Gateway", which is based on NDC technology.
It is therefore not surprising that the airline with its headquarters in Dubai does not charge a fee for bookings made through it. However, travel agencies require an agreement to use “Emirates Gateway”.
