The Turkish airline Onur Air was seized of eight aircraft due to outstanding debts at Antalya Airport. This was ordered by the General Directorate for Aviation. In addition, it had compulsory grounding for the carrier.
Onur Air is prohibited from operating flights with immediate effect. According to local media, Fraport and TAV Holding submitted the application for seizure together. The General Directorate for Aviation approved these and prohibited Onur Air from continuing to use the seized commercial aircraft with immediate effect. The airline had to cancel all flights.
The amount of debt is rumored differently. However, some media unanimously write that Onur Air should owe Antalya Airport alone 526.000 euros. Based on today's measure, it can be assumed that Onur Air's financial position is very tense and there is an acute risk of bankruptcy.
The fleet consists of a total of eleven machines, eight of which are owned by the group and three are leased. The carrier has shrunk massively in recent years, but has set up a subsidiary in Bulgaria under the name Holiday Europe. Their future is currently unclear.
Recently, 15 percent of Onur Air was sold. The new investor apparently has to pour a lot of money into the carrier, which was founded in 1992. The machines should only be released after the outstanding debts have been paid. As long as the flight ban should remain in place.
