As expected by the governments, the number of corona infections is currently rising again. As a result, the number of newly issued travel warnings is increasing almost every day - and with it the number of cancellations. For this reason, TUI is shifting down a gear and reducing the winter offer.

And that again. This time, the tour operator will reduce its capacity by 20 percent to around 40 percent of the originally planned size, like Reisevor9.de reported. Group boss Fritz Joussen also speaks out and regrets this decision. However, it is necessary in view of the low number of bookings. According to him, the company still has just under two billion euros in its cash register. But every day you lose capital in the "low to mid three-digit million range".

Since the resumption of travel in the summer, TUI has brought 1,4 million people on vacation, according to Joussen. Bookings for the summer were 83 percent below those of the previous year. The bookings for the winter are currently 59 percent below the previous year's figure. These values make it clear: It can be difficult to continue without savings. This also affects the staff - in the near future the company could therefore shrink by 8.000 employees, according to Joussen.
