Not only in Milan, but also in India, an airport had to contend with heavy water this week. In Calcutta, however, the cause was completely different, because the construction of a subway is said to be responsible, according to local media reports.

Parts of the apron, the access road and even some areas of the terminal were under water on Tuesday. The airport said that due to construction work on a subway link, the drainage systems were clogged. That led to waterlogging. Furthermore: "Another reason for the flooding is the construction of concrete slabs for the metro project along the streets, which led to a lowering of the street level".

The operator of the metro rejects the allegations. It is explained that the construction site would be about 200 meters from the terminal. But the problems didn't come without warning, because flooding already occurred in August 2021 and the construction site was literally full of water. At that time there were also a few planes in the middle of the water.

This time the flooding could be cleared up more quickly. The airport points out that the fire brigade has significantly more pumps available. They learned from the August incident and upgraded accordingly. However, the mood between the airport operator and the metro company now seems to be finally tense.
