United Airlines flight UA328 suffered serious damage to its right engine shortly after take-off on Saturday. At around 13:10 p.m. local time, debris fell over a residential area in the town of Broomflield.
The Boeing 777-200 was en route from Denver to Honolullu and was equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW4077 engines. Eyewitnesses report that flames erupted from the right drive. There were 241 people on board, including the crew.
The captain decided to return to Denver Airport, where the N772UA could land safely. According to United Airlines, there should be no injuries. Even on the ground, there should only be property damage. The civil aviation authority FAA and the accident investigators of the NTSB are now clarifying how the engine could malfunction. The investigation began immediately after the Boeing 777-200 landed.
