The German flight attendant union UFO is disappointed after the aviation summit that was held on Friday. According to the organization, it represents around 40.000 cabin employees who work for various airlines.

UFO boss Daniel Flohr describes his impressions as follows: “We are glad that the particular concern of the aviation industry was taken up by Mr. Scheuer. It is disappointing that the measures discussed so far and discussed today do not contain any regulations to secure jobs in the industry. Socially responsible handling of the current surplus of staff in this badly shaken industry must be the common goal and specification of the government for supporting the industry. The cost cuts called for in the joint declaration threaten the livelihoods of thousands of employees in the highly competitive air transport market without offering any protection in return. The downward spiral for employees can no longer be stopped by the market, there is a threat of the collapse of functioning social systems due to a crisis through no fault of their own. With almost one million workers directly and indirectly affected, our economy would be damaged for years. Billions for the aviation industry must therefore not be used to shut down companies like Germanwings or Sunexpress and to ask the public sector to pay twice by financing social plans with taxpayers' money and ultimately paying unemployment benefits. So just giving money is not enough, a solidarity pact of society is needed to get both industry and people through this crisis. The unions are ready for it. The dialogue must continue after the summit with those responsible from industry and politics in order to find out how this can be achieved ”.
