According to a recent survey, around three quarters of Austrians want to travel by car on their summer vacation this year. 95 percent of respondents said that they consider their own motor vehicle to be the safest means of transport in times of the pandemic.
At the same time, 66 percent of the participants expect that there will be long traffic jams on the motorways, at the borders and at toll stations this year. 1.000 people took part in the survey carried out on behalf of the Kapsch subsidiary Trafficom.
"The car is currently experiencing a renaissance as the preferred means of transport for vacation trips," says Wolfgang Ressler from the Kapsch TrafficCom subsidiary Tolltickets. “In times of pandemics, 95 percent of Austrians rate the car as a safe or very safe means of transport. For comparison: aircraft or ship, on the other hand, are classified as less safe or even unsafe by more than 60 percent. "
However, vacationers are concerned about the congested roads on European travel routes towards the sea and into the mountains. 60 percent expect inadequate traffic flow planning at construction sites. Toll stations are also a neuralgic point in other European countries: every second holidaymaker has already been annoyed about the additional waiting times.
