A serious accident occurred at Houston Executive Airport on Tuesday. A McDonnell Douglas MD-87 operated as a business jet crashed shortly after the end of the runway and caught fire. The 18 passengers and three crew members probably had a particularly active guardian angel, because all of them survived the accident.
The county sheriff confirmed that all passengers and crew could have left the plane alive. In addition, two people are said to have injured themselves slightly. These were treated in a nearby hospital.
In view of the pictures and videos that have been circulating on the Internet and through US media of the accident machine, it is a miracle that fortunately this accident did not claim a single victim.
What exactly happened has not yet been conclusively clarified. It is still unclear whether the N987AK took off at all or so slowly that it broke through the fence around 300 meters after the end of the slope. Furthermore, some supply lines, such as electricity, were destroyed by the accident. As a result, some villages were without energy supply.
The affected McDonnell Douglas MD-87 was 33 years old at the time of the incident and was originally delivered to Finnair. At the moment the N987AK was registered on the 987 investments of a well-known real estate company. The plane was en route from Houston Executive Airport to Boston. It was not a scheduled flight, but a so-called executive charter.
The NTSB has already started investigating the accident. There is already a great deal of speculation, but the results of the Commission regarding the cause must be awaited. The most important news is definitely that the crew and passengers survived the accident largely unharmed.
