A lockdown has been in effect in the Republic of Austria again since Monday. As a result, exit restrictions have also been issued. Hotels are only allowed to accept guests for professional reasons or in emergency situations. The ÖAMTC explains what is and what is not allowed with regard to “vacation in lockdown”.

  • Stay at the second home, e.g. B. Weekend house: allowed.
  • Vacation in a hotel / apartment in Austria: not allowed. There is a ban on entering accommodation establishments (including campsites). B. Spa guests or business travelers are excluded.
  • Foreign travel: not forbidden from the current perspective. According to the ministry, freedom of travel will not be restricted with the 5th COVID-19 Emergency Measures Ordinance. Therefore, the drive to the airport is also allowed. Of course, the entry regulations of the country of travel must be observed - and the regulations for returning to Austria.
  • Cancellation of trips already booked: Depends on the individual case. First of all, it depends on the start of the trip - if this is only in December, it is currently not clear whether a free cancellation is possible due to the package travel law. However, it often helps to take a look at the terms and conditions, because many tour operators offer accommodating cancellation options until shortly before the start of the journey. Many travelers have also taken out appropriate insurance. If the trip is imminent, a possible cancellation depends on the situation on site: If this does not differ significantly from the time of booking, free cancellation will not be possible - it looks different if the country in question prohibits entry. In any case, you should definitely contact the tour operator or travel agency.
  • Who has already started his vacation and is currently in a hotel, guesthouse or other accommodation facility, is exempt from the entry ban and can stay for the duration originally booked.
