Due to the tense and highly dynamic political situation in eastern Ukraine, the Cockpit Association recommends avoiding flights in or over the regions of tension at this point in time.

The European aviation authorities have not updated their assessments of a safe overflight at this time. In case of doubt, the safest option should always be chosen by authorities and airlines, according to the professional association.

In recent days, more and more airlines have announced that they intend to avoid Ukrainian airspace for the time being due to the escalating security situation in the area around Ukraine in the conflict with Russia. Other airlines are not going that far and are content for the time being to constantly monitor the tense situation in order to be able to react to any changes as quickly as possible. The Latvian airline Air Baltic is completely turning the tables and even increasing the frequency to Ukraine: This week there will be exceptional daily flights from Kiev to Riga to fly people from the region.
