The information about the fire brigade radio frequency 121.555 MHz for emergencies at German airports was officially published with the latest update of the German Aeronautical Information Publication (“Aeronautical Information Publication”, AIP).
The Cockpit Association (VC) sees this as a significant gain in safety and expressly welcomes the inclusion of the frequency in the Aeronautical Information Booklet. The VC working group Airport and Ground Environment (AGE) and other representatives of the professional association had campaigned in direct exchange with the Federal Ministry of Transport for the entry of the fire service frequency in the AIP.
"The introduction of the fire brigade frequency at German airports ensures more safety," says Vivianne Rehaag, VC board member Flight Safety. “In an emergency, everyone involved knows exactly how to communicate with each other. This enables a quick and clear exchange between the cockpit, airport fire brigade and air traffic controllers, which is essential for the quick resolution of emergency situations. It is now important that everyone involved is trained so that the effective use of the frequency can be established.”
The aeronautical handbook AIP is published by the German air traffic control and contains basic information on rules and procedures in air traffic.
