On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, the Verdi trade union called on the staff working in the areas of aviation security, ground handling services and employees of the airport company at Berlin Brandenburg Airport to walk out. At BER, it is assumed that flight operations could possibly come to a standstill.

The strike is to be carried out all day and begins with the early shift. The Verdi union announced that work would not resume until late in the evening. At the same time, the employee representatives point out that there could be long delays and cancellations of flights. Berlin-Brandenburg Airport fears that operations could come to a complete standstill.

The background to the call for a strike is that the most recent wage negotiations have not brought about a breakthrough. The union is demanding at least 500 euros more per month for the affected areas, with the agreement being said to have a term of one year. However, employers want longer terms.
