The International Airlines Group could still enter Air Europa through the back door. In March 2022, Globalia was granted a loan of 100 million euros. This can be repaid within six months or converted into a 20 percent stake in Air Europa.

In the course of the presentation of the latest IAG figures, CEO Luis Gallego explained, among other things, that he expects that there will be a conversion into an Air Europa share. That would put you on board as a minority shareholder in the airline you originally wanted to buy.

The International Airlines Group planned Air Europa to take over completely. Due to the corona pandemic, the purchase price was initially renegotiated and literally halved. However, there were considerable antitrust concerns and even before the EU Commission made a decision, the deal called off. Since then the tried Spanish politicsthat Air Europa will still be integrated into IAG.
