Anyone who needs to go to the toilet at London Gatwick Airport currently has a problem because many toilet facilities are out of order. In one of the two terminals there are only two toilets available. Many restaurants can only work to a limited extent at the moment.
The second largest airport in the British capital London is currently suffering from acute water shortages. The background is that the water pipe burst due to low pressure. In order to be able to alleviate the consequences at least a little, the airport has water delivered by tanker.
The affliction happened Thursday afternoon and has had a serious impact on just about everything that relies on a working water supply. For example, the catering trade can only offer food and drinks to a limited extent. Some restaurants have even decided to close until the problems are resolved.
For passengers, however, it is likely to be much more unpleasant that many toilet facilities cannot be operated due to a lack of water. The airport has managed to keep a few toilets open, but there are two available in one of the two terminals. Accordingly, longer waiting times are to be expected there before visiting the quiet place.
A spokesman for Gatwick Airport said: "A problem with SES Water's water supply in and around Gatwick this morning has resulted in lower than normal water pressure throughout the airport. We are working closely with SES Water to ensure this issue is resolved as soon as possible. Bottled water will be provided for passengers and airport staff and other emergency measures will be taken to ensure the welfare of our passengers. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to passengers."
