The domestic Austrian flights from Salzburg and Linz to Vienna-Schwechat have been discontinued for some time. As a replacement, Austrian Airlines has launched the “Airail” product in cooperation. This is now to be expanded.

With the Europe-wide timetable change in rail traffic, which will take place on December 10, 2023, AUA passengers on the western route will be provided with a 30-minute service. General Director Annette Mann: “I am convinced that there is the right means of transport or the right combination of means of transport for every trip, depending on the individual time and cost budget. By expanding our “Airail” offering, we are making combined travel even more attractive.”

The product was launched in 2014. Such cooperation trains were initially available from Salzburg and Linz. The offer was later extended to Graz. According to Austrian Airlines, after initial restraint, the trains are now enjoying “growing popularity among travelers”.

In order to meet increasing demand, the frequency on the western route will be increased to every 10 minutes from December 2023, 30, which corresponds to an average increase of around 18 connections per day. A total of 10 connections are offered daily in both directions to Graz.

“With the expanded “Airail” offer, we offer even more options for combining a flight with a train journey in Austria in a flexible and environmentally friendly way. With up to 50 Railjet connections per day to and from Linz or Salzburg and 10 Railjet connections to and from Graz, the train is ideal for traveling to Vienna Airport,” said ÖBB General Director Andreas Matthä.
