So-called thermal screening has been carried out at many airports since the beginning of the corona pandemic. With the help of thermal imaging cameras one wants to find people whose body temperature is elevated and “fish out” them. This is not effective and Vienna has now put an end to this measure.

In many countries, including Austria, "fever measurements" using thermal imaging cameras were introduced at the beginning of the corona pandemic. However, it was not the airport's idea; the measure is being carried out by the authorities. In Austria, the armed forces were responsible for this on behalf of the respective health authorities. Although it became clear at the beginning of the pandemic that "fever measuring" was not at all effective, the measure was continued until the end. In other countries, people stick to it and sometimes even measure body temperature before entering supermarkets.

The so-called thermal screening was carried out at the entrances to the baggage claim hall at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. The monitors were monitored by soldiers of the Federal Army. This is now history again, because the thermal imaging cameras and all accessories have been removed. The document controls of the district authority Bruck an der Leitha, which is also the health authority for the area of the largest airport in Austria, remain in place. The armed forces continue to work on behalf of the above-mentioned office.

At peak times, the departure zone of Terminal 3 is now extremely well filled, so keeping clearances is a major challenge. Flughafen Wien AG is currently not using the gates of Terminals 1 and 2. Only in the event of bottlenecks the bus gates in area C are used selectively, whereby the passengers are brought by bus from zones F and G respectively.

Due to the structural conditions, there are always long queues and crowds at both passport and Coivd document controls in Terminal 3. The restart of the bus arrival at Terminal 1 was a little bit of a remedy, as there is significantly more space in the area of the new baggage carousels.
