The Hungarian low-cost airline set a new record between June and August with almost 13 million passengers in the peak summer months. This corresponds to growth of 76 percent compared to the previous year.

Over the summer, Wizz Air continued to expand its route network, adding 63 new routes to 38 different destinations in Europe and beyond. The airline put 13 new Airbus aircraft into service between June and August, bringing the fleet to 165 aircraft. In Vienna, the carrier recently announced the stationing of a fifth aircraft from December and the new route to Madeira.

“We are proud to have carried a record number of passengers during the peak summer season, especially given the known challenges for the entire travel industry. The three months have been another exciting phase of expansion with some key highlights including the announcement of 20 new routes to Saudi Arabia from across Europe. In addition, we have opened a number of routes from bases across Europe in time for the winter season, giving our customers even more choice when choosing their next travel destination. We would like to thank our loyal customers for continuing to choose Wizz Air because they appreciate the affordable fares, diverse route network, great inflight service and highly efficient aircraft,” said Evelin Jeckel, Network Officer at Wizz Air .
